"I was suffering from pain in my left shoulder which would travel down into my left bicep when I went for my daily walk. I didn’t want to take pain meds, I wasn’t able to stretch the pain out and massage couldn’t relieve it. My husband said he had heard that acupuncture was an option for relieving pain, so I googled acupuncture in Charleston. A list of licensed practitioners came up and I looked for the one with the most experience. Heidi Alexander had three times more experience than anyone else on the list, so I emailed her that very night. By the next morning, Heidi had replied to my email. We made arrangements to talk on the phone about my concerns and, after a short conversation, she thought she could help. She fit me in that same afternoon. My muscles were so tight that Heidi could hardly get the needles in, but she is an experienced professional and she persevered! She worked on me for two hours and by the time I left, I felt noticeable relief. After two more sessions, my shoulder pain was gone!! That was over nine months ago, and I have not had a recurrence of that pain. All that pain relief at a very reasonable cost!!"

“In March I went skiing and had an accident. I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus. I was in a lot of pain and had a lot of swelling. I decided to do some acupuncture on my knee before my surgery which was 8 weeks away. On the first appointment my swelling went down dramatically. After I went for surgery the swelling came back so I decided to keep doing my acupuncture and P.T. together in order to get better ASAP. I decided to try acupuncture after a traumatic loss which was mentally and physically debilitating. My chest was tight with anxiety and my mind was all over the place. I felt paralyzed in all forms. It was hard to find calmness or relief from my reality, my back ached, my chest was tight, I had no motivation, and I couldn't take a deep breath. Heidi has listened to my every word, concern, and physical and mental aches. She finds a way to bring ease to your body while opening channels to feel a deeper, less constricted breath. The tightness I held in my upper back decreased the moment she added the needles in. By the end of the appointment my chest had found a physical release that my mind couldn't give it. This was so important to me. It wasn't as tight because she was able to relieve the tension and pressure that had built up. That night I slept well and the next day I found myself full of energy without as much back pain. She found a way to calm my nervous system by stimulating areas in my ear which brought my bodies systems into a more harmonious place.

“As someone who struggled with infertility for 3+ years, recurrent miscarriage and has a fear of needles, I was fairly uneasy when my fertility doctor mandated I start acupuncture at least 3 months before my In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure. “Heidi was recommended to me by my infertility doctor when I was trying to get pregnant with my second child. I admit I was somewhat hesitant, as I come from an insurance background. She helped me through two failed IUIs and one failed IVF attempt – until I was successful with the second attempt. The high doses of infertility drugs can be physical and mentally difficult to handle, and I would not have been able to manage the emotional and physical aspects of infertility treatment without Heidi. She combined mental health (without being too touchy feely) and nutrition (without being preachy), along with acupuncture. Since she works with all the big infertility offices in town, she knows all their processes and policies and can help you with the information overload. She becomes your biggest supporter! I continued with Heidi during my pregnancy. My OB/GYN was very pleased to hear that I was doing acupuncture during pregnancy, stating his practice “strongly encourages it.” Having gone through one pregnancy without Heidi and one pregnancy under Heidi’s care, I can say she made a big positive difference. Heidi helped ease the side effects of high doses of progesterone during my first and second trimesters. As my due date came and went, I was told by my doctor that the baby was not coming on its own and I was scheduled for an induction. Having had an induction with my first child, I absolutely wanted to avoid having another one. On the same day, in the afternoon, I went to Heidi for a session who used points to encourage labor. I left feeling good. During the next 24 hours there was a definite change in how I was feeling and the baby’s activity levels. The next night my water broke and I went into labor naturally. I have continued with Heidi after giving birth. After two plus years of infertility treatment and then a pregnancy she has helped me clear my system from the hormones and start helping me feel back to my old self again. I have recommended Heidi to a co-worker, next door neighbor and two friends – all going through infertility treatment. I would recommend her to anyone, as she truly made a huge difference in my life!”
